Exciting News for 2007 Graduates

As the semester begins, students have mixed emotions. They are excited to be entering the final semester of their academic career, but the reality of entering the working world weighs heavily on their mind.

Fortunately, 2007 graduates have more opportunities to find employment than their predecessors. According to Job Outlook 2007 (http://www.jobweb.com/joboutlook/2007/), employers plan to hire 17.4 percent more new college graduates from the class of 2007 than they did from the class of 2006. In addition, the prospects for international 2007 graduates look promising. The Job Outlook 2007 reported a 29% increase in the number of companies willing to hire international students for full-time, permanent positions.

The job search seems tedious at times and feels as though one will never see the fruits of their labor, but there is a better way to approach it than simply sending resumes into the black hole of internet job postings.

Here at Smith Hanley Associates, we try to alleviate the stress by taking on the responsibility of locating jobs that meet your search criteria. In addition to this great benefit, by using a recruiter, your resume is guaranteed to land on the desk of the correct person, and I am excited at the opportunity to do so!

I agree that this job hunting process is tedious, I also agree that the resumes sent online will probably won't be viewed by the HR people. This is a great year with a hot market, I believe we will have find a decent position, of course with the help from SH's professionals, this will come sooner. So let's all stand up tall.

Well, although it is true that job market for quant is kind of hot in this year. The competition is hot too. I think it is still not easy for the new graduates to find a job. Companies usually more prefer the candidates who have experience and can start working right way. When I was interviewed, they constantly asked what is the earliest time at which I can start working. Obviously, these are critical disadvantges of the new graduates like me.

In the meantime, I agree that recurting companies, eg. SH, can indeed help us. So, just wish at least one try will end with good outcome.

It is always exciting to hear and read positive news such as increase in wages and the number of graduates' hiring. I think the salary range is in the right order. It is high time graduates from the quantitative field are rewarded with attractive and competetive packages.

It is also very imperative for employment agencies to start educating employers on the benefits associated with hiring both American and Non-Americans. Employers should be encouraged to desist from discriminating against Non-Americans on the basis of H1-B filing.

I strongly believe that if the above is considered, production would be increased.

Thomas, I agree with you that more companies need to consider the highly qualified candidates who require sponsorship. I want to let you know that Smith Hanley Associates is constantly reminding the companies that are not will to sponsor, that their pool of qualified candidates would greatly increase if they did so. I appreciate your feedback and will continue to be a voice for the visa candidates.

Anonymous, while I agree with you that it is difficult to enter a market that is looking for candidates with experience, there are a number of companies who are interested in hiring entry level candidates.

One way to ensure that the entry level resumes get considered is to include your project work with sound descriptions of what you have done and are able to do.

This is definitely an area where using Smith Hanley Associates benefits you, as we are aware of which companies look at entry level candidates.
